Athena's Olives

A hedgehog reminded me to keep seeing the beauty and wonder of the world around me at stressful times. I looked up at work and found myself parked under a ladened olive tree and had my camera on hand. It strikes me that maybe March is out of season for olives in New Zealand in the northern parts, but it makes me realise I know nothing of olives at all, except the tasting of them and that Athena offered the olive tree to the citizens of Athens when they were choosing their God. They chose Athena over Posideon, because the olive provided, wood, shelter and food and named their city after her. I'm sure that one day these olives will work themselves into a quilt.

Fortuitous Horoscope

I start a new job today. My horoscope for the day is:

"12 Mar : Time is right time for consolidating your career. You can expect to establish strong foundations for leadership, and you can also expect to receive greater financial rewards for the skills you possess. The new moon will signal a welcome to romance but at the same time stay away from a situation of crash and burn."

Yesterday I spent some time on the boogie board surfing the waves - before I knew it I'd been in the water for a hour, laughing and having fun. This morning the sky in the east is red - rain is on the way.

Look What We've Done to the Garden of Eden : Global Warming

If you ever get the chance, take a class with Gloria Loughman. This piece is my own design which I began in her class, "Playing on the Surface". Gloria is a very generous teacher who shares very detailed knowledge and skill.

Do we or don't we believe in Global Warming? We can see the weather patterns have changed before our eyes - rivers drying, species becoming extinct, the Greenland Ice Shelf breaking up, plants deforming. We know mother nature looks after her own, but what will happen when she gets to us?

Morning Glories

I captured these on the way to a job interview today. Beauty in an unexpected location. The ability to flourish anywhere - food for thought there, as I'm finding looking for work exhaustive and draining of all my creative energy. No time and no motivation for creativity. It feels like a desert.

Notice the Unexpected

I've been taking the ferry across the Auckland harbour recently in pursuit of new employment and today I noticed the strangest thing just as the ferry departed. Brightly painted letter boxes, perched under the pier on the support structure. I can only guess that they are possibly nesting boxes for the many piegons that populate the ferry terminal.

Life presents us with interesting things, when we take time to really look at our environment.
