This week I randomly chose a small book at the library of views of New Zealand and it captivated my heart this week: SOUTH Photographs from the South Island of New Zealand, by Petr Hlavacek a West Coast based landscape photographer with a particular interest in glaciers and ice images. In this book he presents his photo's of the South Island. His images show that he has a unique eye for looking at our beautiful country there is something etheral about each image, as if you can feel the wind whispering the story of the landscape. Petr captures the light and the texture of the landscape in a way that keeps drawing the viewer into the image. My favourite image is on page 134: Sand dunes at Wharariki Beach, west coast of Golden Bay. The colour palette is soft greyed browns and blues, not so grand or majestic, but a place to rest a while.
